Hybrid on-path off-path approach for end-to-end signalling across NSIS and non-NSIS domains (HyPath)

چکیده
In a multi-domain Internet that offers QoS guaranties for applications, there is the need of signalling among the domain entities that are responsible for the management of QoS. Because different domains have different network protocols and topologies, there is no solution that is able to signal these entities using an off path approach, and in particular that is able to interwork with the on path. The HyPath approach uses the NSIS protocol and interactions with the local routing protocols to have an off path signalling in these hybrid environments.

NSIS Quality of Service (QoS) signaling enables applications to perform QoS reservation along a data flow path. When the data flow path contains IP tunnel segments, NSIS QoS signaling has no effect within those tunnel segments. Therefore, the resulting tunnel segments could become the weakest QoS link and invalidate the QoS efforts in the rest of the end-to-end path. The problem with NSIS signa...

This paper discusses the use of the Policy Based Network paradigm, COPS (Common Open Policy Service) and NSIS (Next Steps In Signalling) frameworks being developed by the IETF, in the context of the European Project EuQoS (End-to-End Quality of Service over Heterogeneous Networks). An overview of the EuQoS architecture is provided followed by the analysis of the use of PBN/COPS and NSIS to supp...
متن کاملQoS NSIS Signaling Layer Protocol for Mobility Support with a Cross-Layer Approach
Providing seamless QoS guarantees for multimedia services is one of the most critical requirements in the mobile Internet. However, the effects of host mobility make it difficult to provide such services. The next steps in signaling (NSIS) was proposed by the IETF as a new signaling protocol, but it fails to address some mobility issues. This paper proposes a new QoS NSIS signaling layer protoc...
متن کاملScalable Quantitative Delay Guarantee Support in DiffServ Networks Through NSIS
This paper investigates the issue of enabling scalable quantitative delay guarantee support in DiffServ networks through NSIS. A NSIS QoS Model is utilized to add the admission control framework to the DiffServ architecture and reservation-based admission control algorithms are designed for ingress and interior nodes respectively for enabling quantitative delay guarantees in a DiffServ domain. ...
